How
much is beautiful the youth that is escaped however! Who wants to be glad he can
be, for tomorrow there is nothing so certain. Lorenzo the Magnificent One |
Towards
the half of the sixteenth century, the dresses weared at the court of France,
broccades, velvets, silks, were taken as model. Silver and golden buttons adorned
the jekins studded with jewels and diamonds. The front sticking tights had the
trouser-flap, a kind of protection which became long troiusers, so precious as
the body.Male clothing was subjected to the Spanish influence too, especially
the ruffs, at first a very simple collar gather by the shirts, but later larger
and disproportionate. Consequently the sleeves were puffed.

For
a long time, the female fashion was used to the close-fitting body, with whale-bones,
where very curled skirts started, often raised on the side to show precious petticoat.
The necklines were plentiful, but not wanton, puffed sleeves and lots of embroidery.
